What SM Wood Shutters are made of
SM Wood laminated wood shutters are custom-made in any style, model, and size—including large or atypical shapes. Laminated wood greatly reduces warping and bending over time, keeping the shutters functional and attractive in changing weather.
Beyond their decorative appeal, the shutters serve essential functions: they protect against UV radiation, provide thermal insulation, ensure privacy, and enhance home security. The finish can be opaque in any RAL colour or transparent, to highlight the wood’s natural grain.

Laminated wood Technology
SM Wood shutters are made exclusively from laminated wood, not simple solid wood. The difference is fundamental: cross-lamination with perpendicular fibres eliminates warping caused by changes in humidity and temperature—the classic problem with traditional solid wood shutters.
Long-Term Stability
A standard solid wood shutter will cause problems after 3-5 winters. A laminated one – will not.
Active UV Protection
Adjustable louvres control the angle of light and UV rays that degrade interior textiles and furniture.

When it is NOT the right choice
- Budget is the deciding factor: laminated wood shutters cost more than PVC or aluminium alternatives. The difference is justified by durability and aesthetics, not by basic functionality.
- Native smart home integration: if the project requires full automation with sensors and exclusive app control, aluminium roller shutter systems are more natively compatible with these ecosystems.
- Urgent delivery time: custom manufacturing takes 8-12 weeks. They are not suitable for construction sites with tight schedules.
- Facade that does not allow periodic maintenance: wood requires a finish inspection every 10 years. For buildings where access to the shutters is difficult or costly, a maintenance-free material is the practical choice.
